How can human rights mechanisms better protect victims of torture? The article serves as an introduction to a special issue on torture and protection. It argues that protection is often thought about in way both too narrow broad provide effective responses the needs survivors torture, their families communities. proposes approach looks at from perspective security rather than formal norms mechanisms.
